Biddle Hall

Year Built: 1929

Size: Approximately 15,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as a classroom building with supplemental administrative space

Description: The facility is a linear three-story Stone and Steel structure. Currently the building serves as the primary administrative building on campus and houses many of the staff on the President’s Executive Council. There is a partial basement that contains infrastructure.

Burleigh Hall

Year Completed: 1927

Size: Approximately 14,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as a residence hall with supplemental administrative space.

Description: The facility is a linear four-story Stone and Wood structure. Currently the building serves as the secondary administrative building on campus and houses several of the staff on the President’s Executive Council and various Enrollment operations. There is a full basement that contains infrastructure.

Browne Hall

Year Built: 1928

Size: Approximately 9,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as the academic and administrative space.

Description: The facility is a rectangular three-story Stone, wood, and steel structure with an addict. It is primarily an academic and administrative space. Currently the building is offline and could be an additional venue. In 2025, a $6.2M renovation was completed to restore the roof, drainage systems, windows, and abate hazardous materials. The basement houses the campus data center. A future use for Browne Hall is under consideration why investments to complete the elevator system and interior finishes are codified.

Dudley Centre

Year Built: 1933

Size: Approximately 14,000 Square Feet

±Ê³Ü°ù±è´Ç²õ±ð:ÌýThe building was constructed as the original campus Gymnasium and renovated at some point to be a performing arts center.

Description: The facility is a rectangular two-story Stone, wood, and steel structure. It is primarily a 275-seat auditorium with mezzanine and supplement green room space used for events and student activities. There is a full basement that contains infrastructure and academic space and locker rooms, which is currently offline.

Carnegie Hall

Year Built: 1909 and expanded in 1968

Size: Approximately 15,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The original building is the Carnegie Library that dates back to the early 1900’s. The building was expanded to add classrooms and other academic spaces.

Description: The facility is a linear two-story Stone, Brick, and Steel structure. The upper floor of the original building consists of a campus ‘signature’ space called the ‘Great Room.’ This room holds art and is utilized by the President for hosting guests and other meetings. The expansion has student support services including the Academic Success Center, Writing Center, Computer Lab, and future home of Library Services. There is a partial basement that contains infrastructure.

Emlen Hall

Year Built: 1903 and expanded two additional times through the 1920’s

Size: Approximately 28,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as a residence hall with supplemental administrative space. It was renovated at some point in time to make the rooms suite-style.

Description: The facility is a rectangular four-story Stone, wood, and steel structure. Currently the building serves as one of the Universities Residence Hall. There is a full basement that contains infrastructure and some office space.

Humphreys Hall

Year Built: 1903

Size: Approximately 14,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as a residence hall with supplemental administrative space. It was renovated at some point in time to make the rooms suite-style.

Description: The facility is a rectangular four-story Stone and wood structure. Currently the building serves as one of the Universities Residence Hall. There is a full basement that contains infrastructure and some office space.

Marcus A. Foster Alumni Student Center

Year Built: 1975

Size: Approximately 50,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as the primary Student Union campus.

Description: The facility is a non-traditional shaped three-story Brick and steel structure immediately adjacent to the historic quadrangle. It is primarily student union space with an auditorium, bookstore space, retail kitchen and dining space, weight room with lockers, offices, and administrative space. is a partial basement that contains infrastructure.

Marian Anderson Music Center

Year Built: 1969

Size: Approximately 35,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be a performing arts center with administrative and academic annex.

Description: It is a split level 2-story brick and steel facility. The performing arts side has a 625-seat venue with supplement Chorale room and Band room. It also has office, storage, and green room spaces that support the auditorium. There is additional green room space and supplemental practice room spaces in the basement. The annex is a two-story structure that has offices and classrooms.

Raleigh Ellis Power Plant (Shoot 360)

Year Built: 1941 and expanded in 1949, Renovated 2025

Size: Approximately 9,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the primary steam generating plant for purposes of heat.

Description: It is a rectangular stone, brick, and metal structure with one primary floor and a partial basement. It also has some small administrative spaces and is home to the campus electrical switchgear. The 2025 renovation provided $2.5M in resources to afford Cheyney the opportunity to collaborate with Mosaic Development Partners, LLC to repurpose the facility for use by a limited liability company and franchisee of Shoot 360.

Vaux-Logan Hall

³Û±ð²¹°ùÌýµþ³Ü¾±±ô³Ù: 1965Ìý

Size: Approximately 30,000 Square FeetÌý

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the Industrial Arts facility for campus

Description: The facility is a split-level L-shaped two-story Brick and Steel structure. Vaux was constructed first and includes large ‘shop’ style spaces as well as lockers and restroom spaces. Logan was added to include classroom spaces, auditorium, and loading dock areas. One of the two campus data centers is currently in Vaux and will need to stay there. There are infrastructure upgrades needed to maintain the data center. The Aquaponics Laboratory is in the Loading area toward the rear of the facility and in the loading docks areas. The lab grows fish and completes other types of research that assists a vendor already on campus, Herban Farms. The fish fertilize the growth of basil in the Herban Farms greenhouse adjacent to McKnight Rogers. Upgrades are needed for the lab as well.

New Science Center

Year Built: 2013

Size: Approximately 40,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the new Sciences facility on campus.

Description: The facility is a rectangular four-story Brick and Steel structure with a Penthouse, and a single-story annex Planetarium. The ground floor has mostly mechanical space, storage, and loading. The upper floors contain offices, classrooms, laboratories, and other necessary common and administrative spaces. The laboratories contain equipment and hoods necessary for pedagogy related to Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Computer Science.

Fanny Coppin Hall

Year Built: 1929

Size: Approximately 5,000 Square Feet

Purpose and Description: This building was constructed to be an elementary school on campus. It was built the same year and most likely the same contractor that built Biddle Hall. It has classrooms and some administrative space. The building is currently offline.

Tubman Hall

³Û±ð²¹°ùÌýµþ³Ü¾±±ô³Ù: 1967Ìý

Size: Approximately 60,000 Square FeetÌý

Purpose: TheÌýbuilding was constructed as aÌýtraditionalÌýresidence hall with supplemental lounges and study areas, gang bathrooms, and two Resident Director Apartments.ÌýÌýÌý

Description: TheÌýfacility is a linearÌýseven-story Brick facility with a half basement for infrastructure and laundry facilities.ÌýÌýEach room has operableÌýwindows,Ìýand the building only has perimeter heat.ÌýÌýIn 2023, allÌýseven floors of the building were renovated withÌýnewÌýlighting, flooring, and other aesthetics.

Living and Learning Center Residence Hall

Year Built: 2013

Size: Approximately 110,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as a suite-style residence hall with supplemental lounges and study areas, as well as a classroom.

Description: TheÌýfacility is a non-traditional T-shapedÌýfour-story modular style building with stone façade and standing seam roofing.ÌýÌýIt has 4 wings, A, B, C, and D. TheÌýbuilding was built with two primary entrances.ÌýÌýThe HVAC is a centralized geothermalÌýheat pump system,Ìýand the windows are operable.

Ada Georges Dining Hall

Year Built: 1972

Size: Approximately 48,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the primary dining facility on campus as well as other auxiliary spaces.

Description: The facility is a square two-story Brick and Steel structure with a Penthouse. The ground floor has a mechanical, service and storage area for Food & Beverage services, and large support space. The first floor is the primary dining area, main kitchen, and Ballroom space. Renovations are underway for Ada Georges Dining Hall totaling over $7.9M; the expected completion date is Fall 2028.

ÌýKing Hall

Year Built: 1969

Size: Approximately 55,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed as a traditional residence hall with supplemental lounges and study areas, gang bathrooms, and two Resident Director Apartments.

Description: The facility is a linear seven-story Brick facility with a half basement for infrastructure and laundry facilities. The building is currently offline, however in 2025 the Commonwealth allocated $11.5M for renovations. The work is scheduled to be completed by 2029.

ÌýMelrose Cottage

Year Built: Original House circa 1760’s

Size: Approximately 4,000 Square Feet

Purpose and Description: The original building was a Farmhouse on campus. The original house is constructed of stone and wood and at some point, in the 1800’s two additions were put on. It is a three-story structure facility with an attic. Cheyney has been awarded over $1.5M for renovations to the first floor of the building. The timeline for completion of the project is scheduled for 2028.

Hill Library

Year Built: 1974

Size: Approximately 40,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to replace the original 1909 ‘Carnegie’ Library on the campus quadrangle.

Description: The facility is a rectangular three-story Brick and Steel structure. All three floors contain stacks, conference spaces, offices, staff spaces, storage, and infrastructure space.

Duckrey Social Sciences Center

Year Built: 1976

Size: Approximately 77,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the central hub for various Social Science Academic programs for Cheyney.

Description: The facility is a square shaped two-story Brick and Steel structure with an interior courtyard. Both floors contain classrooms and academic offices. The ground floor has (2) Two-story spaces: The Ed Bradley Communication Center and an auditorium. The building is currently offline.

Harris-Turner Building (Annex)

Year Built: 1974

Size: Approximately 28,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the home of Hospitality and Home Economics Programs in the 1970’s.

Description: The facility is a rectangular three-story Brick and Steel structure and a single-story annex. The ground floor has mostly mechanical space and a large Art Studio. The 1st Floor contains several large classrooms, administrative offices, and a small auditorium. The second floor has classrooms, offices, and a small commercial kitchen.

Wade Wilson Building

Year Built: 1979

Size: Approximately 20,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the central hub for administration in the 1970’s as the buildings on the campus quadrangle were in poor condition.

Description: The facility is a square four-story Brick and Steel structure. The upper floors consist of administrative spaces and restroom facilities. The Ground floor consists of storage space, and infrastructure spaces. The building is currently offline.

McKnight-Rogers

Year Built: 1965

Size: Approximately 7,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the campus Health Center in the 1960’s as the buildings on the campus quadrangle were in poor condition.

Description: The facility is a square one-story Brick and Steel structure with a large 1.5 story common space flanked by two wings of administrative offices and bathrooms. The building currently houses the ÐßÐßÊÓÆµ Public Safety Department.

Jones-Hilton Maintenance Center

Year Built: 1961

Size: Approximately 33,000 Square Feet

Purpose: The building was constructed to be the central hub for facilities maintenance, storage, auto-shop, and other infrastructure servicing purposes.

Description: The facility is a linear 2-story Brick and Steel structure. The top floor consists of administrative spaces and restroom facilities. The Ground floor consists of storage space, locker room facilities, infrastructure, and former auto-shop.

Sewage Treatment Plant

 

When campus was expanded in the 1970’s, a water tower was added at the highest point near the Jones-Hilton facility. It is approximately 90 feet tall and is fed by water procured from a local authority. The water down feeds all the facilities with enough pressure and capacity to overcome the heights of King and Tubman Halls, which are the tallest on campus. Due to the demolition of several facilities in recent years there is ample capacity for the new initiatives.

The University has the luxury of having its own Waste-Water Treatment Facility. Built and upgraded in the last 30 years, the University enjoys the benefits of not having to be tied to an authority for this type of service and cleans its own wastewater before being released into the nearby creek. The capacity of the plant is rated at (250,000) gallons, and it is estimated that at its peak the university does not even reach half the capacity amount.

Armstrong Glen Burnie House

Year Built: Original House and Barn 1700’s, House wings mid 1800’s

Size: Approximately 5,000 Square Feet

Purpose and Description: The building was originally the farmhouse on campus. The original house and wings are constructed of stone and wood. It is a three-story structure facility with an attic. In the basement of one of the wings, there is an Underground Railroad Infrastructure. There was work done to the house in the last 30 years to provide structural preservation upgrades and exterior pointing.
